“Luxury is not merely a price tag; it is a discipline of the hand and an intentionality of the mind.”
In the autumn of 2024, the Tobe Asikoko journey took a pivotal turn toward the heart of global tailoring: Milan, Italy. Through a specialized internship at the prestigious Ferrari Fashion School, supported by the UK’s Turing Scheme, our Creative Director, Tobe Asikoko, immersed himself in the rigorous world of Italian luxury systems.
This wasn’t just a period of study; it was a refinement of the brand’s soul.
The Milanese Standard: Precision Over Spectacle
Milanese fashion is defined by an uncompromising standard of excellence. Working within the Italian fashion ecosystem provided firsthand access to the meticulous processes that define “Made in Italy” luxury.
During this time, the focus was on the technical architecture of fashion:
- Garment Construction: Mastering the silent strength and precision of high-end tailoring.
- Sample Management & Editorial Styling: Coordinating with stylists and PR houses to handle the logistics of high-fashion editorial shoots.
- The Luxury Workflow: Understanding how a sketch evolves into a retail-ready masterpiece through structured production systems.
The Synthesis: African Heritage Meets Italian Rigor
The true breakthrough in Milan was the marriage of two worlds. While surrounded by the aesthetics of the Mediterranean, Tobe developed a unique capsule collection that remained fiercely loyal to his Nigerian roots.
Using modular sustainable design, he integrated the brand’s signature Kolascape textiles with the refined silhouettes of Western luxury. This fusion proved that cultural intelligence is a vital asset in the modern fashion market. It was here that the Tobe Asikoko vision was solidified: contemporary luxury rooted in heritage.
Lessons in Quiet Authority
The experience at Ferrari Fashion School taught us that true luxury is found in the details—the choice of a thread, the precision of a seam, and the narrative behind the fabric. These lessons now form the Founding DNA of every piece created at the Tobe Asikoko studio.
Today, we apply those same luxury fashion systems to our bespoke and ready-to-wear collections in the UK, ensuring that every garment carries the precision of Milan and the pride of Africa.
